Americans are Drinking Less, But Not at Historic Lows

Marten Lodewijks focuses on declining alcohol consumption. “We’re not at a historic low yet,” he says, and is comparable to 90’s levels – and much higher than the 70’s, he says. There have been dips before, but “what’s somewhat unique is the rapidity” of the fall. He looks at societal reasons for lower drinking, including generational dynamics, as Gen Z tends not to drink as much.
